Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff is a teenage sensation, the 15 year old made it to international headlines. She continued her Wimbledon Cinderella run on Friday, for a 3-6, 7-6, 7-5 victory over Slovenian Polona Hercog.
At the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the young star is now one victory away from the quarterfinals. On Monday, her fourth-round opponent is going to be Romanian Simona Halep. Her opponent won last year’s French Open ad is ranked the 6th women’s singles player.
“I always knew that I could come back no matter what the score was,” Cori Gauff told ESPN right after the match. “The crowd was amazing, even when I was down a match point they were still cheering me on.”
With all confidence, the teenage girl seems wise, and confirmed enjoying this journey. Steffi Graf, Andrea Jaegar, and Jennifer Capriati were the only females younger than Gauff to reach Round 16 in Wimbledon.
“Obviously, this moment is an incredible moment,” Gauff said. “I’m still excited I get to keep living it.” She added, “The most unexpected message I received — well, it wasn’t really a message. Miss Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mom, posted me on Instagram. I was, like, screaming,” she said.
“I don’t know, like I hope Beyonce saw that. I hope she told her daughter about me because I would love to go to a concert.”
