The Hunger Games will return to the popular novels and films as a sequel next year. Author Suzanne Collins revealed on Monday that she is writing a fresh novel that will take place 64 years before the first book events in the series, and it will be released on May 19, 2020.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” Collins said in a statement. “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

The original novels (and movies) of the Hunger Games are placed on live television in a post-apocalyptic dystopia where young people are pressured to battle and kill each other for survival. More than 100 million copies have been sold by the first three Hunger Games books, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

The new novel is set long before we see Katniss Everdeen (performed in the prosperous franchise by Jennifer Lawrence) fighting for her lives and for liberty for all communities compelled to volunteer their kids to battle to death. While there are no formal details of what or who is going to be featured in the prequel, there might be more about how the Hunger Games came to be.
